AEKTA KAPOOR

Palak Shah is the 28-year-old CEO and Founder of Ekaya Banaras. Armed with a Business
Management Degree from King’s College, London; and an MBA in Entrepreneurship from
Babson College, Massachusetts, she was formally inducted into the business in 2012 by her
father, Mr. Bharat Shah, Brand Director of Ekaya.

Ms. Shah is responsible for Ekaya’s operational and creative marketing strategy.
She was a member of the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia Class of 2019 and Forbes India 30 Under 30
India 2020. This is a significant recognition of her efforts as a change-maker in the protection,
preservation and creative diversification of textile traditions and the luxury handloom industry.
Ekaya was the first Indian textile brand to adopt the collaboration model between leading Indian
and international fashion designers and the famed artisan community of Banaras. Palak has been
instrumental in facilitating all of Ekaya’s collaborations with designers in India and
Internationally. In 2018 Ekaya collaborated with the French federation of made-to-measure
couture La Fédération Française de la Création Couture Sur Measure – Paris. The vision behind
the collaboration was to create French wedding collection using Indian handloom textiles.

“I want our Indian textiles to stand out for their impeccable craftsmanship and I want to make
them the world’s next kimono. The focus needs to shift to the versatility and global appeal of our
heritage weaves and we need to create a space that allows Indian textiles to be a part of our
everyday life” – Palak Shah, CEO, Ekaya Banaras.
